Health Inspection Office holds Taichung Animal Disease Prevention Conference: Emphasizing animal disease prevention work and fostering team spirit among animal disease prevention personnel.

With the spread of globalization and intensifying climate change, the animal industry faces a growing threat of infectious diseases brought in by animals from abroad. Responding to this danger, the Health Inspection Office has strengthened liaison with animal disease prevention personnel at the city's various district offices and increased attention to animal disease prevention practices. The Office held the 2021 Animal Disease Prevention Conference on November 30 at the Daan District Office, and invited Lin You-liang, Ph.D., to give a talk on the topics of "necessary swine fever eradication knowledge" and "African swine fever prevention methods." We hope that this event will help animal industry personnel to effectively perform livestock farm biosafety measures, and effectively reduce the risk of animal diseases getting established in Taiwan.

According to the Health Inspection Office, following this year's discovery of lumpy skin disease in Taiwan for the first time and the presence of the African swine fever virus in meat products smuggled in from Vietnam, Taichung City immediately initiated necessary preventive measures. Apart from mobilizing animal disease prevention personnel and relevant government offices and bureaus, the city also enlisted the cooperation of academic personnel and the livestock industry. With everyone working together, we can prevent these infectious diseases from entering the area, and become a successful example of public-private cooperative disease prevention.

Topics covered at this conference included the prevention of such animal diseases as rabies, African swine fever, and lumpy skin disease. The participants engaged in enthusiastic interaction and discussion, and a general consensus was achieved. We hope that this conference will bolster the team spirit of animal disease prevention personnel, and ensure that the city can perform even better animal disease prevention work. We look forward to strengthening service to farmers and ensuring the sustainability of the city's animal industry.
