In order to strengthen rabies and awareness and ensure that rabies is not transmitted from wildlife to dogs and cats, the Animal Protection and Health Inspection Office will hold free roving dog and cat rabies vaccination and pet microchipping sessions during Novemer & December 2025.

All registered residents of Taichung may bring their ID card and dog or cat to an activity location to receive vaccination and chip implantation have their pets microchipped. Because many dogs and cats will be present, we urge pet owners to use a pet carrier or leash to avoid fighting among the animals, and be ready to clean up any urine or excrement. Please help to maintain order and cleanliness at this activity.

Two hundred doses of rabies vaccine will be provided each day. If many pet owners are present, we will issue number tags; please wait until your number is called to fill out down your information and have your pet vaccinated. This activity will only provide rabies vaccination and microchipping; if your pet requires vaccination against other infectious diseases (such as cat multiple disease vaccination and dog eight-in-one vaccination) or treatment of other diseases, please bring your pet to an animal hospital.

Pet owners should also check whether their pets have any edema of the face or eyes, skin redness or rash, intense itchiness, breathing difficulty, vomiting, diarrhea, or even shock within one hour of receiving vaccination; please take your pet immediately to an animal hospital for treatment if any of these symptoms occur—do not delay! Also note that mild swelling or slightly reduced vigor or appetite may occur within three days after vaccination; in this case, please observe your pet closely, and promptly bring it to an animal hospital for a checkup if any of these conditions do not improve.

Finally, we also remind the public to be sure to uphold the "two don'ts and one do"—don’t abandon pets, don’t contact wildlife (including bats), and do have your pets vaccinated each year, which will ensure that rabies is not transmitted between animals and humans. This Office performs unscheduled checks in public areas, and violators will be fined from NT$30,000 to NT$150,000 in accordance with the Animal Protection Act. One owner who failed to have their pets receive their regular rabies vaccination received fines in this year. We appeal to residents to make sure to bring their furry children to receive their annual rabies vaccinations. Furthermore, in accordance with the Taichung Autonomous Statute on Animal Protection, you will also be subject to a fine of from NT$10,000 to NT$50,000 if you fail to have your pet registered and microchipped.

Persons who wish to participate in the roving vaccination activity should note the following guidelines:

1. Please bring your ID card.
2. Dogs and cats must be at least three months old.
3. Dogs and cats should not receive vaccination if they have an allergic constitution,are pregnant, or have fever, diarrhea or diseases of the heart/liver/kidney.
4. Please bring a photocopy of the front and back of your ID card if you wish to have your pet microchipped.

If the weather is unfavorable or there are any unforeseen circumstances, this event will be adjusted accordingly. If necessary, it may be postponed or cancelled.
