Is avian influenza curable?

Yes. The antiviral medications proved to treat influenza can be divided into two types – M2 protein inhibitors, such as Amantadine, and neuraminidase inhibitors, such as Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) and Relenza that are used to treat Influenzas A and B administered within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms. They would also work to shorten the duration of the flu, treat flu caused by the H5N1 virus and help to relieve the symptoms. Viruses becoming resistant to antiviral are a concern; thus, medication should only be taken under a physician’s supervision.
