Human civilization creates many traps for stray animals living in the city. For example, in order to stay warm, many cats like to crawl up onto car engines and go to sleep there. When they are discovered, these cats may not try to escape outside the car, but may even crawl farther into the engine, as if playing a game of hide and seek. In the heat of the moment, some car owners may hit the hood or try to start the car, but if the cats don’t stand their ground, they may even crawl in even further. A three-legged cat named Zi-zi at an animal shelter provides a sad example of this tendency. We will therefore explain how to correctly get cats out of danger.

Zi-zi was only a two-month-old kitten when the incident occurred. Zi-zi liked to walk away from her owner just for fun, but one time she panicked and hid in a car engine. Although the owner heard the sound of a cat, he couldn't find the well-hidden Zi-zi, and finally tried to start the car and see if Zi-zi would come out. Unfortunately, starting the car caused the frightened Zi-zi to run away, and the moving parts of the car engine tore off the cat's rear foot. Although she had escaped from the car, she had lost her rear leg. Because of stories like this, please remember the rules for dealing with cats hiding in cars: "don't hit the hood, don’t start the engine, open the hood, and call for assistance":
1. Don't hit the hood, because this may frighten the cat and cause it to crawl further into the car.
2. Don't start the car, because the rapidly-moving belts in the engine may kill or injure the animal.
3. Open the hood and wait for the cat to run away.
4. Ask for help in saving the cat from auto shop personnel, etc.; do not try to seize the cat barehanded.
After Zi-zi was sent to the animal shelter, she lost her rear leg and tail, and had many burns. Restored to good health after two months' of care and treatment, she has now found a home where she is loved and looked after. Both humans and animals love their homes and the others who live there. When enjoying the safety and comfort of their cars, humans should not hesitate to lend a helping hand when they find a small, helpless animal hiding in their vehicle. We hope that everyone will pass on the "rules for cats hiding in cars," respect life, and protect animals: Yes I do!
