I remember two years ago, in the springtime, I saw two dogs wandering around whenever I passed a certain street corner, and one of them had a collar. I asked some nearby vendors about them, and they told me the dogs had been abandoned. Cars and trucks sped by along the roads, and there were many near misses. The dogs' luck did not last forever, however, and the one with the collar—Xiao Hua—was killed by a truck before he had a chance to grow up. I also felt bad for the other dog—a black and yellow female. Because I was afraid she would suffer Xiao Hua's fate, I finally decided to have a chip implanted in her and bring her home to become our household's third dog. Her name is Little Princess.
Although Little Princess is a three-year-old adult dog, and has been a mother once, she still retains her charming and slightly spoiled manner. She has always had a stable personality, and she took to our family immediately, which was perhaps because she had once come from a household herself. Nowadays, whenever I come home from work, I like to watch Little Princess wagging her tail, and I know that she missed me and looked forward to me coming home throughout the day. Although the dogs at the animal shelter are also happy to see the handlers and veterinarians to take care of them every day, I am certain that they also long for real homes of their own, and hope to have masters that they can look forward to seeing at the end of the day.
I am an Animal Shelter veterinarian, and I am proud to take care of the animals every day. This is my story about Little Princess. I urge you to come to the shelter and support adoption by taking action. You, too, can write your own story. Yes, we can!
