On November 24, Legislator Yang Chi-pang and the office of Legislator Yang Chiung-ying, along with personnel from the Ministry of Agriculture, Agriculture Bureau of Taichung City Government, and Health Inspection Office, inspected the proposed site of a pet life memorial facility in the Dajia District. The Health Inspection Office hopes that after this facility has been built, it will become a demonstration site for all of Taiwan, and will also provide pet owners with a wider range of reassuring alternatives for bidding farewell to their beloved furry kids.

According to a survey of numbers of household dogs and cats taken by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2023, there are 270,000 household dogs and cats in Taichung City. But although the demand for pet funeral and memorial services has grown tremendously, the City still does not yet have a public pet cremation facility. Located on a 2,700m2 site, the planned facility will include a crematorium, freezer storage cases, and memorial space. The facility will provide both individual cremation and mass handling services, and will be able to handle approximately 4,000 dogs and cats each year. It will not only serve pet owners, but also assist in the disposal of stray dog and cat carcasses. Since taking office, Mayor Lu has actively promoted Taichung as a pet-friendly city, and apart from emphasizing pet welfare, has also paid considerable attention to pet funeral arrangements. The City Government will continue to actively promote the establishment of a public pet life memorial park, which will boost animal welfare and respect for animals' lives.
