To promote rabies prevention knowledge, the Taichung City Animal Protection and Health Inspection Office manned a "Rabies Game" stand at the Taiping District's Loquat Festival, which was held on March 15. This innovative puzzle game gave people a fun new way to learn important disease prevention methods and knowledge.
Inspired by the Korean TV series "Squid Game," the Rabies Game stand attracted numerous visitors wishing to tackle its two big challenges. The first challenge involved knocking down blue "Ddakji" vaccination flip paper cards, which represented pet vaccination—the most effective method of preventing rabies. Visitors who successfully passed this challenge could take part in the second challenge, which was a Gacha capsule toy question answering test. By correctly answering randomly drawn questions concerning rabies prevention, participants could win a charming toy. At the stand, these two challenges provided a fun and highly interactive way for members of the public to learn to prevent rabies.
Kids eagerly lined up to get the red human-figure balloons at the stand, which added to the activity's appeal. This novel, fun disease prevention approach gave everyone better knowledge of rabies and how to prevent it in a very enjoyable way.
According to the Taichung City Animal Protection and Health Inspection Office, although rabies is preventable, the death rate is extremely high once an infection takes hold. The Health Inspection Office therefore calls on pet owners to make sure their pets get regular vaccinations, and avoid contact with wild animals, which will ensure the safety of humans and animals alike. In addition, people who fail to get their pets vaccinated every year may be fined from NT$30,000 to NT$150,000. This "Rabies Game" awareness activity both publicized key methods of rabies prevention, and also spread word of the need to prevent this deadly disease. In the future, Taichung City hopes to use more innovative approaches like this to promote prevention of animal diseases and enlist public support in keeping Taichung a healthy city.
