On September 12, the Natural Sciences Division of the Taichung City National Education Guidance Group held a "Seminar on Animal Conservation-Related Issues" and a visit to the Animal Shelter in Houli Campus. The aim was to deepen teachers' experience of respect for life by combining animal protection education with the activities, and to implement the concept in the school curriculum.

The Animal Shelter's Houli Campus was renovated with "adoption and transfer," "education and advocacy," and "tourism and recreation" as its three core functions. The Health Inspection Office hopes that the campus will not only be an endpoint shelter but also play an educational role, changing society's attitudes towards animals from the source. This seminar aimed to help teachers see and understand the current state of animal protection through participation and visits to the shelter, and to put animal protection concepts into practice in school education in the future. The event began with a special guest speaker, Mr. Lin Po-yen, Director of Education at the Life Conservation Association, who gave a presentation on "Animal Conservation and Gender Equality," guiding teachers to consider how to integrate life education, gender equality, and animal protection issues into the curriculum, making teaching not only the transmission of knowledge but also guiding students to reflect on the relationship between humans and animals. The subsequent visit to the campus allowed teachers to observe the dog care process firsthand, understand the challenges and efforts of shelter work, and further appreciate the importance of reducing stray animals at the source. Through this experience, it is hoped that teachers can transform what they see and hear into their words, deeds and teaching by example, pass on respect for life to the next generation, and apply it to building a future where humans and animals coexist harmoniously.

The three golden principles for reducing stray animals are "legislation," "neutering," and "education." The Health Inspection Office has transformed Animal Shelter's Houli Campus into an animal protection education base and continued to collaborate with many organizations across sectors. We welcome people from all walks of life to visit Animal Shelter's Houli Campus so that life education can be achieved through hands-on experience, and so that animal shelter can become educational venues rather than just shelter.
